TaylorMade Golf to Launch Newest Model in Ghost Series of Putters: Tour-Proven Rossa Daytona Ghost

November 30, 2010 by puttistry · Leave a Comment

Press Release:

TaylorMade Golf is proud to announce the release of the putter that so many golfers have been asking for, the Rossa Daytona Ghost, a tour-proven blade that offers the familiar calming white color and high-contrast alignment cues of the now-famous Corza Ghost mallet. Like the Corza Ghost, the Rossa Daytona Ghost was developed with significant input from the world’s most sought-after putting instructor, TaylorMade Tour Staff professional Dave Stockton.

Tour pros who have put a prototype similar to the Rossa Daytona Ghost in play include Paula Creamer, who used it to win the U.S. Women’s Open, as well as Scott Verplank, Martin Laird, Jason Day, Peter Hanson, Darren Clarke, Andres Romero and Sean O’Hair.

The first model in the Ghost Series, the Corza Ghost, has proven an instant success with consumers and Tour professionals worldwide, building massive momentum in the retail marketplace. In four months, the Corza Ghost’s key achievements already include two PGA Tour victories by TMaG Tour Staff professional Justin Rose, first at the Memorial and again at the AT&T National. Corza Ghost has also fueled record-breaking growth for TaylorMade in the putter category; the brand’s 13.1% putter dollar marketshare in July 2010 is the highest total in company history.*

The Rossa Daytona Ghost also has the advantage of Rossa’s renowned and tour-proven AGSI®+ (Anti-skid Groove System Insert) Technology. The AGSI+ insert features 14 polymer-filled grooves in the face that “hold” the ball briefly at impact to negate backspin and promote forwardspin for a smoother roll and more accurate results. The AGSI+ insert also delivers superior consistency in forward roll on off-center hits, something not shown in tests of other popular putters.

The Rossa Daytona Ghost becomes available on Friday, October 1, at a street price of $129.

SKLZ Introduces A New and Improved Refiner Hinged Training Putter

November 24, 2010 by puttistry · Leave a Comment

Press Release:

SKLZ, the industry leader in sports skill development products and equipment, today announced it has introduced the new and improved Refiner Hinged Training Putter as part of the company’s line of golf training aids. The Refiner Putter features a new blade “Anser style” head design which in the last 40 years has been one of the most popular putter styles in the history of golf.

The Refiner Putter is the ONLY hinged training putter on the market. It features a patented, two-way adjustable hinged design that promotes smooth acceleration by forcing players to use their shoulders instead of their hands. Flaws in the putting stroke are immediately exposed by a break in the hinge giving instant feedback on tempo, timing, and club head path.

“Putting is all about feel,” said Greg Shoman, vice president of marketing, SKLZ. “When you practice putting with the Refiner Putter you can really feel where your stroke is breaking down because the hinge will break immediately when your stroke is not solid. The Refiner Putter was adopted early on by Champions Tour Players because the old-school golfers were trying to break the habit of wristy putting styles that were popular back in the day. And now the benefits are really being seen throughout the PGA Tour.”

In addition to fixing the “wristy or “handsy” putting strokes that lead to poor contact and roll, The Refiner Putter helps fix other major putting flaws such as poor tempo caused by a rushed takeaway or transition; deceleration caused by a long backstroke with a short, jabbed through swing; and disconnected shoulders and hands. The dual-adjustment hinge allows golfers to loosen or tighten the tension based on putt length and the desired levels of tolerance.

At least 16 PGA professionals currently train with the Refiner Putter on a regular basis, including one who ranks 6th overall in putts per round on the PGA Tour. The Refiner Putter can be used at the practice green, home, or office, any time of the year. It includes an adjustment key/divot tool. The retail price for the new Refiner Putter blade is $69.99 and $39.99 for the original.

Jim Furyk Wins the THE TOUR Championship presented by Coca Cola Using a $39 Yes! Sophia

September 26, 2010 by puttistry · Leave a Comment

Tournament: THE TOUR Championship presented by Coca Cola
Winner: Jim Furyk (Wikipedia | PGA Tour Profile)
Key: Bunker save on 18 (landed two feet from cup for tap-in par).  In all, he was nine of nine on bunker saves. PGA Recap | Interview
Quote: “I putted with it in Chicago where I was struggling with the greens because they were slow and I liked it there, and these were very quick and I liked it here. It will go with me. It will be used either way, and it is a Yes! putter, same putter that Retief won his U.S. Opens with. Not the same putter, but the same company.  The reason I picked it up, to be honest with you, it’s the only one in the shop — it was the only 8802 like, whatever you want to call it, heel shafted putter. They had some that were bigger, more like a mallet head that were heel shafted, kind of like Faldo used to putt with in his heyday, but they had lines on them, and I wanted something without a line. I just wanted it as simple as it could be, heel shafted. It was the only one in the shop of about 300 putters. At the time I didn’t think it was all the that pretty to be honest with you, but it’s getting a lot better looking every day.”

Tournament: BMW Championship
Winner: Dustin Johnson (Wikipedia | PGA Tour Profile)
Key: Made up a three-shot deficit against Paul Casey with a strong back 9. PGA Recap | Interview
Quote: “Even though I didn’t make a lot of putts today, I made the short ones, and all my putts I hit on line. I hit them where I was looking. You can’t read them all right; it’s just not going to happen. I hit everything exactly where I was looking.”
Putter: Titleist Scotty Cameron Newport Prototype 2 (source) Scotty’s Studio Select Newport 2 with its crisp, familiar lines has been expertly refined and improved from subtle milling enhancements to its new sole profile. With its bold, Tour-inspired Cherry Dot graphics, precision milled 303 stainless steel head, and factory interchangeable weights, it’s Scotty’s most technologically-advanced Newport 2 ever.  Sole weights can be changed by the Custom Shop to suit a player’s preferred setup relative to putter length and desired headweight. The stepless shaft provides a clean appearance at address, and the Newport 2 comes with a milled sight line in the flange.  With its high toe profile aiding in a correct setup at address and its plumbing neck providing a full shaft of offset, the Studio Select Newport 2 is Scotty’s definition of a high-performance putter. | Also see What’s in My Bag Video
